About this Piece
HHB inside a diamond, HAND MADE beneath it, and STARLINE 74 over 3000: this is an HHB Starline 3000, a big straight billiard in sandblasted briar with a tapered vulcanite stem.
It is a "fat boy" of a billiard: 74 grams, with a bowl 56 mm high and 43 mm wide. The stem joins the shank with a metal screw tenon and ends in a fishtail mouthpiece. It is pre-smoked, in very good condition. Both stamp panels read clearly in the close-ups.

- HHB inside a diamond outline, HAND MADE below it, stamped on the shank
- STARLINE 74 / 3000 stamped on the shank
A billiard is the classic pipe shape: an upright, cylindrical bowl on a straight shank. This one is built large, with a 47 mm deep chamber, and the vulcanite stem tapers from the shank to the fishtail bit. The meaning of the numbers 74 and 3000 in the stamp is not recorded.
The finish is a deep, rugged sandblast over the bowl and shank. Sandblasting removes the softer wood between the growth rings and leaves the harder rings standing as texture. The stamps sit on smoother panels of the shank.
Condition: pre-smoked, in very good condition.
