GE on the shank, the first letters of the Georg Jensen name, and a metal band at the shank end: this is a Georg Jensen smooth bent Dublin with a smooth, curvy rim, made for a 9 mm filter and finished with a fishtail mouthpiece.
It is pre-smoked, in good condition. The metal band is there to hide a small crack on the shank. Only GE can be read in the stamp; the letters after it are worn.
The Georg Jensen pipe factory was founded in 1954, and it closed in 2001, when Per Georg Jensen jr. joined MacBaren. A history of the W.O. Larsen house adds that Nils Larsen bought the Georg Jensen pipe factory to make cheaper pipes, and calls it a fatal error. The two accounts do not agree: the Georg Jensen history does not mention Larsen owning the factory, and no year is given for the purchase.
THE MARKS
- GE in capitals, stamped on the shank; the rest of the name is worn
- a raised mark on the metal band, only partly readable
No date is given for this pipe.
The Dublin is a bowl that widens toward the rim, set on a shank. This one is bent, and the bowl is 49 mm high and 44 mm wide around a chamber 20 mm across and 37 mm deep. The pipe is 147 mm long and weighs 51 g. The stem ends in a fishtail mouthpiece, and the pipe takes a 9 mm filter.
The finish is smooth, and the grain shows on the bowl.
