Echt Bruyere Vest Pocket Apple Estate Pipe

A really small vest pocket pipe, made for smoking on the go: a smooth straight apple stamped ECHT over BRUYERE on the shank, with a thin metal band at the end of the shank where the black stem joins it. ECHT is clear, and the first letters of BRUYERE are faint.

THE MARKS

- ECHT in capitals, stamped on the shank
- BRUYERE in capitals, under it
- a small light-coloured mark on the side of the stem, meaning not known

Echt is the German word for genuine, and bruyere is the French word for briar, so the stamp reads as genuine briar. It names no maker, and no year can be read from these marks.

An apple bowl is rounded, and here it comes in pocket size: the bowl is 29 mm high and 24 mm wide, around a chamber 14 mm across and 24 mm deep. The stem ends in a metal tube, the part that goes into the shank.

The briar is smooth, and lines of grain show on the bowl. Please see the photographs for the chamber and the stem.
