Piccadilly in script, then SUPER BRIAR over ENGLAND STYLE, and the number 822: this is a Piccadilly sandblast billiard on a vulcanite tapered stem with a lip mouthpiece.
There is no filter. All the stamps read clearly in the close-ups. It is pre-smoked, in very good condition.
THE MARKS
- Piccadilly in script with an underline, stamped on the shank
- SUPER BRIAR over ENGLAND STYLE, stamped beside the script
- 822 stamped on the shank next to the script
The stamp reads ENGLAND STYLE, not MADE IN ENGLAND. The meaning of the number 822 is not recorded, and no maker history is recorded for the Piccadilly name.
A billiard is the classic pipe shape: a bowl shaped like a cylinder, set on a shank. This bowl is 54 mm high and 34 mm wide, with a chamber 20 mm across and 46 mm deep, and the whole pipe is 165 mm long and weighs 38 g. The vulcanite stem tapers from the shank to a lip mouthpiece that ends in a rounded button.
The finish is a sandblast over the bowl and shank. Sandblasting cuts away the softer wood between the growth rings and leaves the harder rings raised, so the bowl has a textured, uneven surface under the fingers. The stamps sit on a smoother panel of the shank.
No date is given for this pipe.
Condition: pre-smoked, in very good condition.
