GESANDI and MADE IN ENGLAND on the shank, and SAXO in white letters on the stem: this is a smooth vest pocket Liverpool, 120 mm long, on a vulcanite tapered stem with a fishtail mouthpiece. It takes no filter, and it is pre-smoked.
THE MARKS
- GESANDI in capitals, stamped on the shank
- MADE IN ENGLAND in capitals, stamped on the shank (faint)
- SAXO in white letters on the stem
The meaning of SAXO on the stem is not known, and no date is given for this pipe.
The Liverpool belongs to the billiard family: a bowl shaped like a cylinder on a long round shank, finished with a short stem. A vest pocket pipe is a small one, made to travel in a pocket. On this one the bowl is 45 mm high and 35 mm wide, around a chamber 20 mm across and 40 mm deep, and the pipe weighs 34 g. The vulcanite stem tapers from the shank to the fishtail mouthpiece.
The finish is smooth, and grain shows on the shank and the bowl.
